POSITION PURPOSE

The Host/Producer of All IN develops and hosts inclusive conversations that are relevant and meaningful to the many diverse communities across the state. The one-hour statewide show airs every weekday on Indiana's public radio network, from 1 - 2 PM ET. This position also helps produce the daily statewide show, bringing ideas for programs and perspectives that increase awareness, add context and connect communities.

Successful candidates will be experienced journalists who are committed to expanding the range of perspectives, backgrounds and experiences in public media. They’ll be immersed in news and culture and able to ask the tough questions when needed. They’ll also demonstrate empathy and vulnerability on air and be able to build trust with listeners. This is an ambitious, high-profile show, and we are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to programming.

This person is part of a three-person All IN team, and a larger 14-member statewide journalism team that reports on the intersections of people and policy in Indiana. All IN both reports its own topics and extends the daily and enterprise statewide reporting of journalists across the state.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The Host/Producer’s primary responsibility is to research, produce and host compelling daily statewide programs that expand the range of voices, ideas and perspectives on the air and connect communities across the state through conversations on topics that affect listeners’ lives.

This is an opportunity for an experienced journalist to apply their existing knowledge and skillset to craft a news program that has the potential to reach more than two million people.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Host a daily, statewide radio talk show from 1:00 - 2:00 pm ET

  • Work closely with producers to highlight issues and perspectives that are relevant to Indiana audiences, and that reflect the diversity of communities across the state

  • Serve as lead producer for two shows a week, which involves researching the topic, finding guests, and writing the script

  • Communicate with potential guests to book for a show, then conduct pre-interviews with confirmed guests to help guide scripts and questions 

  • Work with full Indiana Public Broadcasting (IPB) News team to collaborate on shows, and to boost reporting efforts across the state

  • Closely follow local, regional and national news and culture to bring creative and innovative ideas to the show

  • Record and edit audio for promos, billboards, and occasional pre-taped segments and repeats

  • Work with show engineer to maintain consistent, professional-level audio quality

  • Participate in IPB News and partner station community engagement efforts, outreach and events


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journalism experience and on-air experience required

  • Talk show experience preferred

  • Experience working with a tight, collaborative team

  • Experience with audio editing software

  • Deep knowledge of journalism ethics and an understanding of public media principles

  • High energy and passion for the role and responsibilities of public media in Indiana

  • Deep awareness and appreciation of diverse cultures, perspectives and backgrounds in the workplace and on air, and the ability to lead meaningful and inclusive conversations about challenging topics

  • Ability to manage the production of a large quantity of work, on deadline, that matches the quality of NPR productions

  • Bilingual reporter to provide coverage on all beats (one part-time reporter, in Evansville)

  • Videographer (one reporter, in Indianapolis)

  • Digital producer (one reporter/digital editor, in Indianapolis)

  • Community engagement (one project manager, in Indianapolis)

  • Talk show host/producer (full time, in Indianapolis)

  • Talk show lead producer (full time, in Indianapolis)

  • Talk show assistant producer (part time, in Indianapolis)
