Description
The Community Engagement intern will work directly with the WFYI Community Engagement team. This position will enhance the work of the team, include special projects, and provide a general overview to the workings of WFYI Public Media. The opportunity to shadow other departments, interact with community partners and board members will also be available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to accurately, satisfactorily, and timely perform the functions listed below.

Community Engagement Items
  • Assist with work on community events that are annual/ongoing
  • Learn to create content resource lists
  • Document events through photos and write ups
  • Recruit and enroll individuals in the Bright By Text program
  • Research community organizations and schools news/events to share with reporting team
  • Assist with the planning and organizing of various events including Be My Neighbor Day
  • Opportunity to design and plan a virtual station tour

Volunteer Program Items
  • Work with the Volunteer Manager to update training videos
  • Manage the News Ambassador group page
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience

Required
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university

Highly Desirable
  • Involvement in community organizations
  • Volunteer experience

  • Ability to focus on details, handle multiple tasks, and remain highly organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to make recommendations to effectively solve problems,
  • Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
